How do you sell members-only products on Shopify?
To sell members-only products on Shopify, use a membership app that locks products, collections or pages to paying members. Non-members see a prompt to join; members buy as normal. With InCircle Memberships you choose what to lock and whether everyone else sees it locked or not at all, from the Starter plan.

Why sell members-only products at all?
Members-only products give customers a reason to join that a discount can’t: access. A lower price can be matched by any competitor, but a product only your members can buy cannot. It also brings members back between purchases, because there is always something new that’s just for them.
Access works especially well when stock is limited. If a product will sell out anyway, letting members buy first costs you nothing and makes the membership far more valuable.
What can you lock to members on Shopify?
With InCircle Memberships you can lock products, collections and pages. Members see and buy them as normal. Everyone else sees a prompt to join, or nothing at all if you prefer to hide the product. Members-only access is included from the Starter plan; see pricing.
| What you lock | Use it for |
|---|---|
| A product | A special edition, a members’ colorway, a limited bottle |
| A collection | A members’ shop that fills up over time |
| A page | Guides, lookbooks, recipes or behind-the-scenes content |
Because a locked collection locks whatever you add to it, the easiest setup is one “Members” collection. Drop a product in and it’s members-only.
How do you set up a members-only product?
Create a membership plan, add members-only access as a perk, and pick the products or collections it covers. Then decide what non-members see. The storefront does the rest: members buy normally, and everyone else gets an invitation to join.
- Create the plan and set its price.
- Add the members-only perk and choose products, collections or pages.
- Choose what non-members see: the product with a locked notice and a join prompt, or nothing.
- Add the join widget so the prompt has somewhere to send people.
Showing the product locked is usually the better choice. A hidden product can’t persuade anyone. A visible one, with “Members only” beside it, is an advert for the membership on every visit.
How does early access work for drops?
Early access opens a product to members for a window you set, then to everyone. Members shop first and get their size or their bottle. Non-members can see the product and when it opens to them, which makes the membership tempting at exactly the moment they want something.
A simple drop calendar:
- Day 1: tell members the release is coming.
- Day 3: open to members.
- Day 5: open to everyone, if anything is left.
This is the core of the playbook for apparel and streetwear, and it works the same way for beauty launches and limited wine allocations.
How do you turn locked products into new members?
Put the join offer right where the customer hits the lock. Someone who wants a product they can’t buy is the most motivated shopper on your store, so make joining take one step: show the price, the perks and a join button beside the locked product.
A few things that help:
- Say what else they get. The locked product opens the door; free shipping and member prices close the sale.
- Offer a free trial or an intro discount if the fee feels like a hurdle. Both are available from the Starter plan.
- Use a tracked join link when you announce a drop, so you can see how many members each announcement brought in.
Which Shopify apps support members-only products?
Dedicated membership apps generally do, and subscription apps generally don’t have it built in. If you’re comparing options, see InCircle vs Appstle Memberships and InCircle vs Bold Memberships. New to memberships? Start with how to start a paid membership program on Shopify.

Can I hide a product from non-members completely?
Yes. In InCircle Memberships you choose whether non-members see a members-only product with a prompt to join, or don't see it at all. Showing it locked usually works better, because the product itself sells the membership.
Can I make a whole collection members-only?
Yes. You can lock single products, whole collections or pages. Locking a collection is the simplest way to run a members' shop, because anything you add to it is locked automatically.
What is the difference between members-only and early access?
Members-only products can only ever be bought by members. Early access opens a product to members first for a window you choose, then to everyone. Use members-only for exclusives and early access for launches.
